Week 2

Aren't they gorgeous! Two weeks old and everyone says they couldn't be doing better. Our boys got moved into open hospital beds and out of the isolettes. They love being bundled up. They are also waking up a little, whimpering when they get hungry and looking up at their mom and dad when being spoken to. The new daddy got to hold both boys together yesterday for the first time. We're so proud of our big strong boys! (Liam on left, Oliver on right)

They are regulating their temperature and breathing on their own. The only thing we're waiting for is them to start eating. The nurses have explained that it's a developmental milestone, not something that can be practiced. So, like learning to walk or crawl, we're just waiting for that skill to come. They're still small, and we've been told to be patient. They are getting there though!

Look at the cute little feet!

Twin Hiccups

Oliver and Liam are already starting to enjoy the same activities. They really liked hiccups the other day.

One week older and wiser too!

Our boys are one week old as of yesterday. They have really been doing great. We were only allowed to take them out of their isolettes once a day for the first few days so only one of us could hold them a day. Now, we can take then out twice so we both get to hold our boys once a day! This allowed us to take our first family photo, seen above. We had the nurse scoot their isolettes together and finagle cords so we could finally be together as a family!(by the way, the staff is GREAT in the NICU! We're so grateful for all they do)(Liam below)
The boys have accomplished a lot this week. They are now off their iv fluids and tolerating their feedings. They continue to gain weight, bur are still both just below 4 lbs. They are tolerating feedings through the tube in their nose, but still no interest in sucking. Our nurse said that would come as they grow bigger and mature. The boys have spent a lot of time under the Bili lights to help with jaundice. We hope that's over soon. When they finally got all unhooked, they both wore their first pair of clothes. (Oliver below)
We've noticed that Liam seems to be the chill guy. He just lays around like he owns the place, without a care. Oliver is a bit more feisty, pulling at tubes, kicking his legs, and letting us all know when he's unhappy. They both love to hear their daddy talk to them and their mommy sing.

Family Circus - June 15

The Naming of the Twins!

This morning was exciting! Both boys are off of oxygen now. Bryce got to hold little Liam this morning and we'll hold Oliver tonight. Jenn has a blasted sinus infection so she just watches for now. And, since you saw, we decided on names! We finally decided on first names but had some trouble deciding which grandpa to name Liam after. So, we did what any responsible parent would do. We flipped a coin, best two out of three. And tails won, meaning Grandpa Illum. We love our strong little twins.

The Babies Are Here!

Our beautiful baby boys were born this morning at 8:21 and 9:07am! They were 4 lbs and 4.7 lbs respectively. The delivery went better than we ever could have hoped. It did take a while, but it worked out. The babies are currently in the NICU developing and growing. The ventilator you see below was only required for 4 hours. I will post better pics tomorrow without it.

In case you can't tell, they're pretty much the cutest babies ever. They are fraternal as far as we can tell. They were born at 32 weeks and are at a good size for being that age. As far as when we'll be able to take them home is anyone's guess. It depends on a variety of factors and could range from 3 to 8 weeks time.

We're parents! Wow! We have not chosen specific names yet, but will post as soon as that revelation comes to us.

Weed Puller Extraordinaire

If you think weeds and fun don't belong in the same sentence then obviously you haven't met the Fiskars Weed Puller.

This fantastic tool allowed me to remove weeds from my yard that filled an entire city-issued garbage can. My yard is nearly weed free and has never looked better. Get it on Amazon and take vengeance upon those weeds that have mocked you for so long. You are now their master!

Moustache March

First of all... yes I know that it's June. However, I've been lazy with my photo work. I've only just bearly imported these into the computer.

This year I decided to participate in moustache March. Little did I know that the results would be so...EPIC.
